Dundee doesn’t shout about itself, which is exactly why guests at Yellow Door Apartments tend to leave more impressed than they expected. You don’t need a car here, and you don’t need three days either — just a decent pair of shoes and a loose plan.
Start at the waterfront. The V&A Dundee, Scotland’s only design museum, sits right on the Tay and is worth the visit for the building alone — all curved concrete and changing light. Free to enter, with paid special exhibitions if you want to linger. A short walk along the river takes you to HMS Unicorn, a genuine 1824 warship that’s somehow still afloat and open to climb through deck by deck. It’s one of those things that sounds like a niche detour and turns out to be a highlight.
If you’re after green space, Dundee Law gives you the best view in the city for free — a steep ten-minute climb rewarded with a 360-degree look over the Tay and beyond to Fife. On a clear day you can see why locals call this Scotland’s sunniest city.
For something less obvious, the McManus Galleries in the city centre are an easy hour well spent, and free. Further out, Camperdown Country Park has woodland walks and a wildlife centre that’s particularly good if you’ve got kids in tow.
Most of this is walkable from our apartments, which is by design. We picked these locations specifically so a day exploring doesn’t start with a taxi.
